Standard gameplay involves 2 teams of 2 players but scroll down to view all playing options including 1v1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Setup for Standard Scoring

  1. ONE Goal—Place the SPOTKICK goal at one end of the playing area and the cones at the other end.  They should be positioned 12 yards apart.  Teams switch roles when the first team reaches 13 points.  (Kickers become trappers and vice versa for the remainder of the game)

  2. TWO Goals—Place the SPOTKICK goals 12 yards apart, measured from front edge to front edge.

Objective

The first team to reach EXACTLY 25 points wins!  Partners stand at opposite goals, alternating kicking and trapping. One partner kicks the ball and the other partner traps it toward or into the goal. After both partners complete one kick each, the ball is passed to the opposing team. The game continues alternating team turns until an exact score of 25 is reached or there is an Auto-Win scored.

Method of Play

The game can be played with one goal or two.  In the standard format, the game is played with two opposing goals and two two-player teams.  The first player that initiates play for the first team will kick the ball to the opposing goal.  His teammate will attempt to redirect the ball to score points.  The teammate then kicks the ball back to the original goal.   Then the second team will follow the same procedure.  When all participants have had the chance to kick the ball a round is complete.  After the ball is kicked, points are awarded based on the scoring system shown below.  The team that reaches 25 or more points first after an equal number of rounds are completed wins the game.  Another way to win the game is the automatic win.  This occurs when a player kicks the ball through the opening in the top of the goal ("The Spot") without assistance.  If the score is tied at 25 after an equal number of rounds, then an overtime round will be played.  The team with the highest number of points in that round wins.  If the score is still tied the process repeats until there is a winner.

Spotkick Scoring

“Classic”

1 pt

Direct shot

Ball is kicked straight into the goal like a classic goal scored in a traditional game.

“Crossbar”

3 pts

Direct or Trapped

Ball is kicked in the air and hits the goal anywhere (posts or crossbar) before touching the ground.

“The Spot”

5pts

Trapped

Ball is kicked in the air and is trapped into the hole.

“The Reverse”

5 pts

Trapped

Ball is kicked in the air and it is trapped into the rear entrance of goal. In this scoring option, the ball must be received in the air but may touch the ground after. Points are awarded as long as the ball goes through the goal.

Auto Win

Game Over

Direct Entry

The ball is kicked directly into “The Spot”.

General Rules (Standard)

  1. Use of a cone when kicking the ball is permitted.

  2. Players may kick the ball standing next to the goal, but they may not kick the ball from in front of the goal. No points are awarded if a player kicks the ball while standing completely in front of the leading edge of the goal.

  3. Trappers can move anywhere behind or next to the Spotkick goal, however, they are not allowed in front of the goal.

  4. Trappers MAY NOT make contact with the Spotkick goal or extend any body part into the space above the Spotkick goal.

  5. Trappers are only permitted one touch to redirect the ball. No points are awarded if a trapper double-hits the ball.

  6. Three points are awarded to the opposition if an opponent interferes with play or defends the goal. If the score is 23 or 24, 1 or 2 points are awarded, handing the opposition the victory. There’s no cheating in SPOTKICK!

  7. A team must reach EXACTLY 25 points to win. If a given kick results in points exceeding a total score of 25, the points from that play are deducted from their current score...and play continues. For example, if a team has 23 points and scores a "Crossbar" (3 points), their score is reduced to 20.

  8. Teams must complete an equal number of turns before the game is over. Even when an Auto-Win occurs, the team with "the hammer" (final kick) will always get to kick last and tie the score with another Auto-Win.

  9. In the event of a tie game, an “overtime tiebreaker” decides the winner. Each team completes one round of kicks, and the team with the most points wins. Overtime rounds continue until the tie is broken.

Championship Rules (For advanced players)

  1. Goals must be placed 18 yards apart, from front edge to front edge.

  2. Use of a cone to “lift” the ball is NOT permitted.

  3. All scoring options are the same as the “Standard Scoring Rules”

1 v 1 SPOTKICK RULES

Setup

  1. ONE Goal—Place the SPOTKICK goal at one end of the playing area and the cones at the other end. They should be positioned 12 yards apart.

  2. TWO Goals—Place the SPOTKICK goals 12 yards apart, measured from front edge to front edge.

Objective and Method of Play - 1 goal

The first player to reach EXACTLY 25 points wins!  Opponents stand at opposite ends of the playing field.  Player 1 (Kicker) will stand next to the cones and kick the ball 5 times in an attempt to score as many points as possible.  During those kicks, player 2 (trapper) will also attempt to score points by redirecting the ball at or into the goal when given the opportunity.  This process continues until there is a winner. The game continues alternating team turns until an exact score of 25 is reached or there is an Auto-Win scored.

Objective and Method of Play - 2 goals

The first player to reach EXACTLY 25 points wins!  Opponents stand at opposite goals, alternating kicking and trapping. Player 1 (kicker) kicks the ball in an attempt to score points.  If given the opportunity, player 2 (trapper) may trap the ball toward or into the goal. The players then switch roles.  This process continues with players alternating roles until an exact score of 25 is reached or there is an Auto-Win scored.

MODIFIED RULES

(For beginners or players under the age of 10)

The rules listed below are suggestions, and I encourage the formation of “house rules.”  Many options can make the game easier and more enjoyable for young players and beginners. Feel free to pick and choose what works best for your family.

  1. Goals can be placed approximately 8 yards apart, from front edge to front edge.

  2. The first team to score 15 points wins!  If using only one goal, teams switch roles when the first team scores at least 7 points.

  3. Use of a cone to “lift” the ball is permitted and encouraged.

  4. Kicker passes the ball ON THE GROUND and the ball

  5. hits the goal but does not go through (1 point)

  6. passes through the front of goal (2 points)

  7. goes past the goal and partner redirects into the “reverse” entry of goal (3 points)

  8. Kicker passes the ball IN THE AIR and the ball

  9. hits the goal directly or after being redirected (4 points)

  10. is redirected by partner into the reverse side of goal (5 points) OR

  11. is redirected by partner into “The Spot” (5 points)

  12. AUTO-WIN - Kicker passes the ball directly into “The Spot”

  13. Option: Instead of kicking the ball, allow kickers to toss the ball to trappers. This allows a more consistent ball flight and more opportunities to trap and a higher chance of success. Use a “throw-in” style of pass for more authenticity.

  14. Option: Allow trappers multiple touches and/or permit a bounce of the ball before redirecting it toward or into the goal.
